MG MGB Technical - Lower glass stop - replacement

'72 Roadster - My car had no lower glass stops (AHH7550/7551) when I stripped it down. Now I'm at the stage of building up the doors I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/ideas for a replacement as they are no longer available. A picture of one in situ would also be very helpful should I choose to fabricate them.

Hi Richard,

I used a piece of angle aluminium, with a hole drilled in it.

The OE ones have a flange each end and pick up via self tappers and spring clips on holes pre drilled in the inner door and the bottom of the door, you should be able to see them. The flat part that stops the widow has a sort of horse hair pad stuck to it. I have one in the garage somewhere, but would need some time to find it!

Some of these items , the horse hair pads etc,are available at outlets called Clark rubber here in Australia. Very useful little bits they have, not original but, sometimes better that original? Mike

Thanks everyone. I'm going for a piece of aluminium with a rubber door stop.

If anyone has the dimensions of these, Ashley Hintons will make them in stainless steel, they make ones for the midget but have not been able to find a B one to use as a template.

I used a closed cell foam to replace the original fibre pad. Anything that doesn't absorb water is a good thing IMHO

Found a photo showing the stop with pad attached

Well look what I found on the "most of an MGB I will never use" shelf! I think black is OE finish

And the flange and fixings. With that pic of the stop in place it gives you a good idea.

Great pictures thanks. I found it impossible to visualise where/how it was fixed from only the exploded diagrams.

You guys are much more high tech than me! I used a block of wood. Sitting flat on the door bottom and held in place with some silicone goop. I then drowned it in rust proofing so the wood soaked it all up.
