MG MGB Technical - Lazy Tach? (Tickover)

I have an 80 "B" that was purchased new. when I start the car, the tac does nothing. After the car runs for a couple of seconds, the tac works fine from then on. My question-----is this normal?

Dale, I do not know if it is normal or not but my "77B" has been doing the same thing since I purchased it over 10 years ago.

I have two BGT's and have driven many more(b's + GT's)
and they have all done it to one extent or another.
I usualy give mine a little tap to get it going.

I always thought this was normal :-)

If it's any consolation...this happens to my 2002 mgtf 160! A quick tap on the dial cover sorts it out...so I guess that it's "normal"!
Blue Max

Thanks to all who returned your replies! I guess it is NORMAL!
