MG MGB Technical - horn contact brush 76 mgb

Have 76 mgb in restoration mode. Need the horn contact brush that contacts the dash side of the horn slip ring attatched to the steering wheel hub.

No one seems to have one or even a picture of one. If I can get a picture of it I can fabricate one. But now I don't even know what one looks like. I can see what is left, but that is all.

that is not the one, I have that one. That one is inside the steering hub. It is the brush that contacts the DASH side of the slip ring to complete the circuit. It is some how attatched to the steering column. Or maybe the bracket that holds the wiper switch to the steering column.

That's what I thought you meant, and the Moss descripion is misleading, its part is a switch not a brush. I though the 76 had the horn push on the turn and dip column stalk and didn't need the wheel brush, but maybe not until 77 for North America. If it is supposed to have a wheel horn push then the brush is mounted on one of the column stalk switches, probably the turn and dip sitch. It should have a purple/black wire going to it and be a copper spring strip with a brass pip on the end which bears on the ring on the back of the wheel. AFAIK they are not available seperately. I think I can just make out what might be this brush on a couple of drawings in the Parts List but to be honest you probably won't be much the wiser than the above description.

It is carried on the saddle that holds the indicator switch to the column ( on UK cars )

They are no longer available new. I have tried a few people over here but the one you want was only used for a couple of years and are pretty rare over here.

All it is is a bent piece of brass strip held near one end by a rivet through a plastic insulator, the short end forms the connector for the wiring and the long end is bent round to run parallel with the wheel ring and carries a small contact to wipe the ring.

If you disassemble an old relay/washing machine mechanical programmer/domestic light switch you will find a suitable strip of brass with a contact at one end you could probably use if you have the saddle part of the indicator switch.

Vern, I made a couple of photos of an old saddle with contact. The contact is worn or it came off. Paul and Chris are right, it is mounted on the saddle for the turn signal switch. It was on USA cars from around 72-76. The photos are in my Yahoo photos and are open to the public. Clifton
