MG MGB Technical - HIF-4 Needle Change Result

Good Day All,

I just thought I would share the results of my change in carb needles. My 1974 1/2 "B" has an 18V engine with mild cam, .040 overbore, and a compression ratio of about 9.5:1. I am running the "Eurospec" distributor from Brit-Tek, but have modified the centrifugal advance curve considerably. I reach max total advance of 38 deg at 3200 rpm. I also have the K&N "pancake" filters installed.

I had noticed I was running a little lean at mid to high speed, so swapped out the ABD needles and installed AAA. Wow, I can't believe the improvement. I can feel the increase in power most from about 2500 to 4000. I read archives and used info from Chris Betson and others to choose the AAA needles, and am very pleased with the result.

Cheers, Doug

Your experience dupicates mine exactly - see the thread 'K&N "Bob" Filter Follow Up' which is still listed a few lines earlier.
