MG MGB Technical - Help get the G on the road again

I have an MG that has bee sitting in my back yard for about 6 years now. Prior to that it was sitting in a field for about 12 years. Any suggestion on getting this thing back in road condition. The Body has rust in the seal and you can see the ground in the trunk area. It does not have a real carb (some type of webber side draft) on the engine. The brake master cylinder will not hold fluid so that was taken off and is somewhere in my shed along with other part that where in the trunk of the car. I do have this old book (the car repare type) that is behind one of the seats in the car. My biggest problems is wanting to get the car on the road (safely) with the least amount of money. I know it will need a carb and a working master cylinder along with the brakes taken apart and rebuilt. Any ideas on where to find these parts cheap or what I can do with the current ones.

Most parts can be rebuilt or replaced with repair kits or parts from Moss ,VB, and many others. Since it sat in a field for so long and is rusty, I would check the integrity of the body support structure before spending any money on it. The floors rocker panels and all the supporting structure between them should be inspected for rust thru before doing anything else. If the body is not solid, it isn't safe to put on the road

I wouldn't burn it, but it sounds as though it's not a practical proposition spending time and money putting it back on the road. You could well be better off finding another, less rusty car and using the first one as a parts car. You would be better off buying a car of as close a vintage as the first so you get the best chance of swapping parts.

Jimmy, sounds like major rust damage which could make the car unsafe to drive if the sills are bad. These cars don't have a 'frame' so all sheet metal in the chassis area has to be in good condition. The carb is definitely worth some bucks, don't scrap the car until you get a better idea of what you have.
Most brake parts are available at much lower cost from places like AutoZone and O'Reillys than Moss and Victoria British, so if you're on a budget check there first. The old brake parts have some value as cores for rebuilt items you might need. I'd suggest making contact with the nearest British Car Club or MG club in your area. Those guys will be more than happy to help you decide which way to go and help you locate parts.
