MG MGB Technical - half shafts/ removing them

hi ive read in my manual i will need a special tool to remove the halfshafts on my 1977 mgb roadster(making a clonking noise and feels rough when turned by hand),can you get away with out one ,if not any idea how much they are.regards richard

Its a slide hammer. Some people use an old brake drum. I think you put it on "inside out" there is a lot in that archives.
