MG MGB Technical - Engine temperature, external

What temperature does the B engine reach, 120, 150.

Engine painting the reason for asking.
Bill

Use one of the special engine paints available from your local motorists shop/Halfords branch etc. MGB engines were originally red (although my reconditoned and bored out 1950cc unit is black and no doubt there are B's with BL Gold Seal engines!). Heat resistant engine paints are available in various colours.

Ordinary aerosol car paints are fine for the engine - VW Gambia red is a dead ringer for MG Maroon engine paint. For the exhaust manifold use a high temp paint specially made for the purpose.

Hersh has a superb exact MG maroon

I have access to a laser thermometer, I'll send in some readings when I'm back in the office on Tuesday. Tho it will be unlikely that the exhaust manifold is up to full heat.

High-temp Aluminum paint is fantastic on the manifold and header pipe. Looks very sharp!

Thanks guys.

The reason I'm intersted in the temperature is that I am proposing to use an industrial paint, high gloss, black, which is said to be heat and chemical resistant, to between 120-150 degrees.

If the engine exceeds this range I'm sunk.

Thanks for those potential readings V Todman, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom.
