MG MGB Technical - Dislodged dust cover

Sorry to pester you guys again but I was refitting a suspension arm when the fitting in the photo fell off. I think it is the dust cover from the lower fulcrum but would really appreciate confirmation. If so it needs replacing because the rubber is split. Are the replacements good?

Rod Merrall

Yes and no :o)

It is from the lower fulcrum, and from what others have said they current ones don't last very long. I'm not aware of any better alternatives.

I don't think I've ever changed any of mine on either car in the 32 and 25 years I've had them. Some of them are a bit flabby but they are hanging in there and I don't feel like swapping them for something that might - according to some - need annual replacement.

Paul. If you get a years use out of the new ones, you are doing well. The last ones that I installed, on a complete front end rebuild, did not last six months. Les

Thanks; a bit discouraging though. Both seals on the offside (not done nearside yet) are torn so had to order new with thrust washers. What else could I do?
Rod Merrall

Sounds like you would do better second-hand!

Found some at local mg specialist which he says are OK; we;ll see

Is that Chic Doig?
paulh4

Yes Paul he is usually pretty good with the quality of his parts so I hope they last.
Rod Merrall

I've had good service from him in the past.
