MG MGB Technical - Convertible top doesn't fit

While fitting a top on my 68 B, I have had two difficulties. One, it is tight but barely possible to fit the lift-the dot fasteners, and secondly when I tried to attach it to the frame rail, I found it to be about 2-3 inches short! The snaps don't quite reach and the fabric can barely be stretched to the rail. This came into my possession from the PO. I have the folding frame. Is this for the stow-away frame? If so, I have to decide between buying the folding frame or a new top. Also, if the folding frame is smaller, does this affect headroom? The top itself looks rather nice, good padding, nice vinyl, sturdy fasteners. No clue to manufacturer, except the window says "ultralight".

Try opening it up as much as possible and leaving it out in the sun. Once the vinyl gets warm you will be amazed at how much it stretches. You can use a hair dryer if it is cold where you are at or even put it in the drying machine for a short period. If you can get it strapped up leave it up for a while and it should hold it's streached shape. If it is still short you may be able to adjust it slightly at the header rail. You can probibally only get about a half inch or so as any more will show.

If our current hot weather won't stretch it enough, you must have a midget top!

Un assuming your fitting it BEFORE you unfold the frame? I know on mine it can become near impossable to install unless I just set the frame in, lay the top over, do the rear bar, front slider bracket thingys, then all the button fasteners, then lastly I do the windshield clamps. It isnt until that is all done that I unfold the frame and it stretches the top really tight and fitting. I dont know if I have the same top, just trying to help.

I anticipate a hot day on the 4th, will employ your suggestions. I didn't think of unfolding the frame last, (thanks Brian,) will do that after cooking it in the sun.
