MG MGB Technical - can i bolt on a new head?

Hi

I have been pondering the purchase of a new head to add a bit more low/mid grunt for my 1968 bgt.

Thinking of getting a burgess ecotune head but how do i check or what do they mean by an 'engine in good condition' before i install it/send the engine for a rebuild?

Current engine is a 1798 reconditioned ivor seale unit installed by previous owner around 30,000 miles ago. No problems with engine, starts very well, taken me on holidays/long drives no problems. spark plug colour ok. exhaust gas colour ok. oil change every 3000 miles. Only thing ever gone wrong since i've had it (2 years) is water pump.

how do i know this is 'in good condition?'

Your engine sounds pretty good as you describe it. If it has good oil pressure and a compression test shows pretty even across all four cylinders, you're probably good to go for a new head.

I'd talk to Peter before you purchase the new head, but I doubt you'll have anything to worry about and I think you'll be very happy with the performance you'll gain.
