MG MGB Technical - Brakelight

Two steps forward, three steps back. Was finally able to sort out the not running problem (fuel pump), now I have a brake issue.

After driving down a nice winding downhill, that little brake light came on. I was good about not riding the brakes or anything like that. Now if I press on the brakes at any time while moving, that light comes on. Plus, the pedal goes about 1/2-3/4 way down before it feels like there is any pressure behind it. Of course the stopping distance has increased a good deal, but it does stop.

Cheers!

That little red light is the LOW brake PRESSURE warning light. you have a leak somewhere. Check over your brake system- hoses, wheels cylinders, calipers, and the metal lines too especially around where you were working on the fuel pump. Crawl underneath and have someone pump the pedal while you look for dripping fluid. If you can't find any then suspect the brake master cylinder. Dont try to driver this thing until you've checked it over and found the problem.

Are you loosing Brake Fluid from the master cylinder? If so you have a leak for sure. But it sounds to me like you have air in the system. You can compress air but not fluid therefore when you push the pedal the air is compressed and the brake travels further down. This results in a pressure drop ie., the light.
If you have an independent brake system front to back you could have a leak in one part of the system which produces a difference in the pressures front to back and the light will also come on

I will be checking the hoses. Was just confirming, but I have a feeling it is the master cylinder (where is Felix the Cat when you need him?).

Hopefully I will have the answer in the next couple days.
