MG MGB Technical - Brake cylinder seal orientation
I'm rebuilding my brake cylinders and would appreciate some help on the orientation of the seals. These are conical like though their axes. What I want to know is, is the side with the greater diameter positioned inner or outer most in the cylinder? This is critical to the safe and effective operation of the brakes. Many thanks, Brian |

Hi Brian The larger diameter is against the fluid. When the seal is in the cylinder a cup shape is formed. The fluid is in the cup. You are correct is saying that this is critical. Cheers Ian F |

Ian, many thanks. This is what I suspected but did need verification. Best Regards, Brian |

And the seals would go in far too easily the other way round. They're a pain to put in. It wouldn't be a real job otherwise. Mike |
