MG MGB Technical - 'B' Clutch covers

I have an MGA in which I converted to the B clutch without encountering any difficulties in getting things to fit etc. (I used the correct B gbx front cover, release arm, bearing and clips)

The problem is that the car now has a clutch with a very high pedal pressure, which as I broke my left foot foot last year causes me to limp after driving the MGA. I play underwater rugby most weeks, and although my fins are 85 cm long (that's a tad under 3' to the disadvantaged!) I have no problems afterwards, and it's not because of any lack of pressure or exertion!

I now believe that the AP clutch cover I installed is most likely to be the cause of the problem, and I am searching for info a cover with a lighter operating pressure, although one that still has the required clamp pressure.

If anyone has info on the various plates around and the force required to operate them (as opposed to the amount of force they apply to clamp the friction plate to the flywheel) I'd be immensly grateful to receive it.

I have also seen the axial clutches on offer from Cambridge Motorsports and others - I think that's going OTT, and I prefer to start with a more basic approach first.

Thanks for all contributions

Dominic,
Are you using the B slave cylinder?
I don't have the answer to you question, but have a feeling this could have something to do with a mis-match between the A master cylinder and the B slave cylinder (differences in bore size).
Other ideas, anyone?

Dominic,

I took an old MGA pressure plate and my new unused B&B Plate and operated them by hand using a drill press. I didn't feel a significant difference in force needed to actuate them. I did however notice that there is a noticeable reduction in force on the new plate beyond about 3/8" depression. The "bottom falls out". Admittedly this is highly subjective.

What shape is the hose in? I've heard the insides can collapse restricting flow.

The Moss P/N's for the slave cylinders are the same.

The hose and slave cylinder are new, and the cylinders are the same. This is a standard A conversion that presents no problems as a rule, either in the hydraulics or in the cover. M/C is also newly rebuilt with new seals, bores are fine.
