MG MGB Technical - Anyone ever solve the Turn-Signal problem?

i have come accross 3 cars that all have the same problem with the turn signal, the plastic clips have broken off......in other words, you have to hold it up, and you have to hold it down, when the steering wheel comes back, it pushes it towards the center, but its too loose, sometimes goes to far down. *example: right hand turn hold it up...when it comes down you let go, and it goes all the way down to left hand turn. its quite frustrating, and it would be nice if there was a fix to this. i'm not really in the mood to spend $75.00 on another one just over 2 little clips being missing, so i was wondering if there was a fix to this problem. any help would be appreciated!!! thanx,

My MGB is suffering from the broken clip syndrome. It is an older B (1964). On these early cars, it is possible to buy and change just the clip which is responsible for both the self cancelling and the switch lever staying in position when you operate the indicators. You need to desolder a wire on the indicator switch and drill out the hollow rivet this wire passes through to change it. In the immortal words of Mr Haynes, replacement is the reverse of removal. Or something like that.

I suspect the problem is caused by a worn column upper bearing, which means the steering shaft isn't where it should be. Both are on my list before the spring.

I just got a Triple-C catalog yesterday. They are offering NOS turn signal switches for $10 each. This may be just the fix you need. Part number PRC2398. Call 1-888-854-4081 or go to www.triple-c.com
