MG MGB Technical - Another igniton light question

I just changed my fuse box and battery (12V), now the ignition light stays on all the time, even with the key taken out. I can hear the fuel pump tick as well.

On the fuse box, bottom fuse, there are two brown wires off the one side (side nearest the front of the car). If I remove one of them, the light goes out and the car starts, light comes on, then off when started. If I remeove the other, car does not start. So I think I have it to the brown wire controlling the hazards, etc. Would the fact that the lights are not connected yet cause this? Except I did not have this problem previously.

I was using a larger battery that, because it wouldn't fit in the battery comapartment, I had it hooked up using jumper cables. Now with the new battery, and fuse box, this new problem has shown up.

Any ideas???

Thanks

Hi Ken.

Did you take the wires off the nearby relay, and if so, are you sure you got them back in the right places ?.

I can't see how the lights would cause this.

I made sure i took the from the old fuseblock to the new one. I did it one by one to ensure they were exactly the same. I didn't touch anything else.

Ken, It sounds like your fuse box isn't installed/wired correctly. Look at the back of your old fuse box, it should have the spades numbered 1 & 3 tied together with a link. Now disconnect your battery ground cable, remove the new fuse box and see where the link is located and which wires are attached to the linked spades. Spade 1 should have a red/green wire from the light switch attached to it. When you have 12 volts on the red/green wire there will also be 12 volts on spade 3, 2 and 4. Spades 2 and 4 should have red wires attached to them. Spade 2 should feed the left front parking lamp, left rear tail lamp and left license plate lamp. Spade four feeds the same lamps on the right side. Good Luck, Clifton

Clifton, you are a genius, or, I'm a dimwit. Turned the fusebox upside down, rather, right side up, everything is perfect again.

Thanks for the tip.

Ken, I'm happy to hear that was your problem. It is something that is easily ovelooked. Clifton
