MG MGB Technical - AIR PUMP REMOVAL
Removed the air pump from my 79 MG-B. First, the P.O. had changed the intake and exhaust manifold to a Weber downdraft carb, K&N air filter, and exhaust header system. So air was pumped into the right side of the engine only. A hose was directed to the ground from the other side of the pump. Second, the pump was noisy. Third, now that is removed, the engine is quieter and "sounds more like an engine." I do notice a slight increase in performance. Fourth, yes I did keep the pump and sprayed marine engine-stor into it so it doesn't seize. Kept the manifold as well. The 7/16 x 3/4 allen head plugs gave the head a nice stock appearance. Thanx to all who lended their knowledge and advice. cheers, Gary |
