MG MGB Technical - 70 MPH vibration

My 1963 MGB which may have 1967 front end has a strong vibration on the left side . The wire wheel were spoke tune and spin balance. At 70 mph and 3500 rpm I get a strong vibration on the left side and the fender is moving a lot and the steering wheel jumps left to right, I can control it with my hands on the wheel
What should I look at first any ideas ?
David

If the wheel and spokes were trued and correctly balanced, the only other considerations that come to me are either the Wheel bearings are too loose/or need replacement or your alignment could be slightly off.

Anyone else?
Luis

David,

Have you tried rotating your wheels and tyres, ie, front to back? You may have a bad tyre? Are the tyres new?

Make sure and check all tires--major vibrations at speed are sometimes hard to pinpoint. I had a rear tire with a bubble/bulge on the inside--could not see it with a quick visual inspection. It felt like the front end when vibration started--at about the speeds you mentioned.

Good luck,

Im not sure if this is entirely related but... last night i noticed that my 74CBGT gives alot of vibration back through the steering wheel at around the 70MPH mark. The car also seems to become light at the front end and doesnt seem to be hold the road very well. Has anyone else had any similar problems / know of any causes? I realise that like Pat says above, high speed vibrations can be hard to pinpoint unfortunately.

thanks in advance

would low oil in the front dampers allow the wheels to bounce too much at speed? I get a vibration on mine, about 70 mph and I know the dampers are weeping. Intend to to top them up on Sat.

Steve, I know my front suspension is due an overhaul, greasing and bushes etc so might see if that solves the problem. Not sure what the oil level is like in my dampers but will check that aswell. Let me know if it solves your problem

cheers

Hi John,

I'll let you know how I get on. My front suspension is pretty good as far as I know (new kingpin for the last MoT). Had some trouble getting suitable 20W oil for the dampers though. I'll be having a long run on Sunday so should be able to see if I have a difference or not.
cheers
