MG MGB Technical - 67 headlights fuse?

The other night I smelled HOT electrical on my 67B and discovered an inline fuse from the brown wire to the headlamp switch. The entire 30 amp fuse and it's rubber base were discovered to be melted and deformed. This appears to be a homemade inline fuse as the spade connects to the hot brown and then to the switch. Anybody know what gives? No original in line existed right? The wire for the inline is fine. The push in type fuse and base are melted.

Ralph - You are correct, there is no original in line fuse for the headlights. From your description, I would suspect that the fuse holder either had a loose connection or a build up of corrosion that caused a high resistance in the headlight circuit, generating enough heat to cause the melt down. I would remove the in line fues and restore the connections to original or, if you feel better with the fuse in the circuit, get a new in line fuse holder and install it correctly and fuse it somewhere around 20 amps.
