MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Which side for the A/C compressor
I am fitting A/C to an 74 MGB I am also converting to V8 power with a 4.2L rover engine with hot wire fuel injection. Which side of the engine should the A/C compressor be mounted, the side with the mass airflow sensor or the side with the oil filter? Thanks Tony Bates |

Tony, I do believe that it would work best on the drivers side since your alternator resides on the passenger side. Just my thoughts. David |

Hi David, Did you get your electrics sorted out?? I have seen a couple of cars aith A/c fitted, both with carbs rather than efi. They mounted the compressor on the passenger side (LHdrive) and moved the alternator over to the driver's side. The reason for the question is that the efi inlets etc takes up a big chunk of space on the passenger side and I don't know if there is enough room for the compressor. I have also asked this question on the RV8 bbs as they have exactly this problem. The one response I had there was that the compresor is on the MAF side (pasenger side for LHdrive. Regards Tony |

The RV8's I've seen have the compressor low down on the LHS if you're sitting in the car(port side)(opposite the oil pump side). The very small compressor bolts in below the air filter and the belt tension is made using a pully on a screw thread. There is about an inch more room that side due to RHS cylinder head offset. Does anyone know what car that compressor came off?. Since the RV8 was largly assembled from existing Rover bits there must exist a cheap supply somewhere. |

Tony, Unfortunately the electrical problems are still persisting . I am at my wits end. David |
