MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Rockers & Shafts

The Rover 3.5 I am currently rebuilding requires new rockers/shafts due to excessive wear. (Scoring on the shaft).
Taking a look at the set up it appears the oil is provided to the rockers via an oil journal which comes up from the head, through the bottom of the rocker shaft support, up through the retaining bolt and thus into the shaft and to the rockers.
IMHO it really doesn't appear to provide enough oil. Is there a way to get more oil to the rockers?

On a normal healthy engine it is normally considered that too much oil being feed to the rockers is more likely to be the problem. Race engines usually have the feed restricted rather than increased.

The problem is that the soft aluminium of the rocker picks up any hard abrasive particles which then grind down the hard shaft aided by the lubriction which flushes the ground off particles out of the bearing area.

Have you got lots of black deposit on the surfaces inside the engine - if so everything needs clearing because the oil changes have not been frequent enough.

That makes sense!

Yes there was lots of black deposits on the internal engine. It is part way through a complete rebuild and it has all been removed.
The rocker shafts were scored, that is why I was wondering if it was a lack of oil, but the abrasive particles makes sense to me.

Thanks for the info
