MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Rewebbing of Seat Belts?
Does anyone know of a good firm in the UK who fit new webbing to seat belt inertia reels? It must, of course, be done to relevant safety standards etc. I've so far only found one, Quickfit SBS, and would like some chance of comparison. Thanks! |

Shops willing to do this type of work are rare here in the US because of possible liability issues. You might try shops dealing with aircraft trimming, as they also work with seat belts and high quality standards. |

Hi I just went through this in Canada. I did find a company in the states who does this but they weren't sure if they could do mine. I would have to ship the seat belt to them in the hope they would be able to replace the webbing. If not, I was stuck with freight each way. For 200.00 I bought new seat belts with new webbing, new retractor. If the webbing needs to be replace (at least 26+ years old) then can the retractors be far behind? FWIW Bruce |

Bruce...who did you contact in the States? Ssnake-Oyl? |

Bill, thanks for the aviation suggestion, we live fairly close to a small airport using airport transfers tonbridge, so there might even be a local firm. Bruce, thanks; I want to replace the webbing as it's both dirty and the last 18" is chafed by the screwhead which fixes the reel to the mounting bracket (I've dealt with the screwhead!). The retracting mechanism seems fine (it's on a '94 MG RV8). Regards from the UK to all you MG lovers in the US! |

Rick Yes it was Ssnake-Oyl. We exchanged several e-mails and pictures of the seat belts and retractors. They suggested I ship the seat belts to them to see if they could repair them. Bruce |

Bruce...let me know what they say if you ship the belts to them...I have two sets that need rewebbed. |

Rick SSnake-Oyl will replace the webbing in seat belts. But they were unable to tell me if they could replace the webbing in the MGB ones.(Even after I sent them a few pictures of the belt and the retractor). They do not rebuild the retractors. So unwilling to spend money on the freight (2 ways)for something they might not be able to replace, and the retractors them selfs were 30+ years old, I bought new ones from a Moss distrutor here in Canada. Mine are from the 1968-69 era...no retractors....shoulder belt clips on to the rear deck. Kangol clips. |

They should have no problems with your's Rick. The problem with my 74.5 belts appears to be the retractor. I know they do seat belts. But they just weren't sure about the MGB retractors. Bruce |
