MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Remore oil filter

Can anyone give me any advice on fitting a remote oil filter? Where is the best place to get hold of the kit and any advice on fitting the kit. Preferably suppliers in the uk.

I used Clive Wheatley's kit on my 3.5 Rover available through a distributer here in Canada but works even better for you.

Check out www.mgv8.homestead.com for a description. I believe his kit includes hoses for an oil cooler. I didn't use one and had the hoses made up.

Rather than put the filter in the engine bay, mount it under the right hand front fender, just behind the headlight bucket. The fixture can be fastened to the unibody with the filter hanging down. No mess to change the filter, access by turning the wheels. I ran one like this for several years and the filter stays clean- no rain spray.

Graham.

They are made in the UK by Mocal, their website is www.thinkauto.com.

Mine's mounted on the inner wing in the conventional place, I bashed the wing out slightly to accomodate the cartridge , and have to remove one of the pipes to relace it...this alternative position sound like an improvement.

This probably won't help you, but depending on where you placed your engine, you may just get lucky... and I may save you a lot of hassle and money.

I fitted a remote filter system when I originally built my car, but then I discovered that with a Buick V6 "metric" oil pump I could throw that mess of hoses away. Now I just spin the filter on directly. (I did have to massage a recess into the frame-like structure with a ball-peen hammer, but the recess is very shallow.) I haven't put the engine in yet, and the engine has a right angle housing already in place i don't know if this is standard,(Rover SD1 3500) May get away without using a remote filter. I will be doing a trial fit in about 3 weeks so that will let me know the way forward.
