MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - hotwire fuel injection wiring

I'm finally there! After a long gruelling process of collecting parts and installing everything on the car, I turned on the ignition and tried starting the car today. Unfortunately everything didn't go as planned. I noticed right away when I turned the key, that the fuel pump only went on for about 5 seconds, then the fuel pump relay shut off. This leads me to think that there is a short, or something is unhappy somewhere in the system, but I don't know where to begin looking. When I unplug the fuel pump relay, the main relay stays on without any problems at all. In fact even when the fuel pump relay is plugged in, the main relay remains active. I'm a bit stumped here, and don't know where to start looking. I do know that when I unplug the fuel pump, the relay still clicks off as though it's being shorted out, and when I swap to another relay, the problem persists.

Help!

The fuel pump is programed to come on for a few seconds to pressurize the rail just when you turn the key on. My GM cars do the same thing.

I think there is some other signal that actually tells the pump to turn on while the engine is running, like a signal from the air mass meter or the ignition coil.

Keep cranking and see if it starts!

Yeah baby. YEAH!

Ok! We got it started! I haven't hooked up the coolant system yet (happening tonight) so I only ran it for a minute or two, but damn that took a lot of cranking to get it going! Once I actually have coolant running through the car I'll get the idle set and check for vacuum leaks and set the throttle potentiometer, and the air mass sensor as well.

Patience is a virtue....
