MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Fuel Injection and Swirl Pot
All the traffic on fuel supply to carbs on hard turns has got me wondering if this isn't my problem with my fuel injection cutting out. I've recently replaced my flapper system with a hot wire system and on the initial test drive the car stopped running when driving in a circle around a cul-de-sac and once on a hard turn. The gauge shows about a quarter of a tank. There is no swirl pot in the tank - it only has a fitting added in the bottom that feeds the fuel pump then on to the fuel filter. I assumed that this configuration would work because it worked ok on the flapper fuel injection, so I didn't give it a second thought till now. Any thoughts on why? Should the tank be modified or could an external 'accumulator' be added between the tank and the pump? Anyone with any experience on how full you have to keep the tank to avoid this problem? Hi Phil, Preventing air-bubbles in the fuel line can be done by either baffling your tank or by making a separate swirlpot. You'll need a return feed to the tank anyway. Separate swirlpot is easiest. It needs to be around 1 liter in size. It has four connections; 1 for feed from main tank by low pressure pump, 1 for return to tank, 1 for feed to high pressure pump and 1 for return from EFI system. Frank |
