MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Fittting O2 sensors

I need to make "fittings" for O2 sensors for my Hot wire fuel injection. I am using RV8 headers, what sort of fitting or size of knut do I need to weld to the exhaust pipes to mount the sensors? How have others mounted their O2 sensors?

I just went to my local exhaust guy and he welded in bungs for 02 sensors very near the collector. Make sure you have them welded to an area that will provide clearance for the o2 sensor!

The K&N part number for the bung is 85-21688.KN. Do you really need two of them, and if so, why? My impression is that one is required, as near the engine as possible. I'll be using Holley Projection. Joe

Hotwire can be made to run without lambda sensors. Maybe the cheapest idea, cause it'll only need a different tune resistor. Are you running cats or anything?

Thanks for the input guys. I am not running cat's but I am assuming (perhaps wrongly?) that the emissions will be lower with the sensors fitted rather than without them. I am using two becouse that is what the Lucas Hot Wire ECU uses on my 1995 Rover engine. My car is a 1974, so no smog check needed here in CA but I would still like to do my bit for the environment.

You can get those fittings at most auto parts stores for 2-5 bucks eack, or you can buy metric nuts, 14mm I think, same as spark plugs.

There are two types of sensors produced. Unfortunatly the rover system uses the Titiania sensors insted of te much cheaper Zirconia sensors. There is a difference in the feedback signal between the two types of sensors. The original rover sensors are very expensive but there are direct replacements from a toyata that are two thirds less. In order to get the best from your EFI system two sensors are needed. I purchased mine at the parts bin, online.

Tony, the sensors are bosch # 13021 I shopped just about everywhere for the best price but no one could come close to the parts bin. Sorry to sound like a advertisment. One note, these sensors are not the 18 mm style but the 12 mm thread. If you don't have bungs welded you might want to wait. I used a jam nut welded on my RV8 tubes.

Thanks for the part number and the fact that they are 12 mm. I will check out Partsbin today. Are the commectors the same or will I need to rewire the sensors?

Tony, you will need to rewire the connector to a sutable plug. I visited my local wreaking yard and grabbed a set of O2 connectors from some Ford product.
