MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - engine/carby height
I am upgrading the 3.5 litre V8 in my MGA to use an edelbrock performer manifold and an edelbrock 500cfm (1404) carby but am concerned the overall height might interfere with the body shell. Can anyone tell me what the total height of the edelbrock 1404 carby is from its base (where it mounts onto the edelbrock manifold)to the top of the aircleaner (and yes any suggestions for the lowest height & efficent air cleaner would be appreciated)?? regards mark |

I'm using the same setup on my MGB, Mark. I can take some measurements tomorrow and let you know. I'm using a K&N 14" filter with a 1.5 drop-base and the "Extreme" top instead of a solid cover. Works well but the Extreme is "domed" a bit high so not sure how it'll work in your car. I can pass along photos if you want a look. Cheers Simon |

Thanks Simon I would appreciate that. My body shell is different from most MGAs in profile so standard bonnet measurements won't work regards mark |

Just measured the carb, Mark. From base of unit to the top of my filter: 5 3/16". This leaves about 3/8" of threaded rod for the hold-down nut. I'll send you a couple of pics. Cheers Simon |

Hi Mark, I measured my Edelbrock 1404 at 135mm from the manifold face to the top of the acorn nut of the air filter. I am using 14"x 2" K&N filter with a dropped lower bowl.5mm was machined off the lower bowl mounting spigot to seat the air filter lower by that amount. The Edelbrock Performer manifold will stand the removal of not more than 5mm off the top face if space is still an issue. Regards, Tony |
