MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Clutch master cylinder
Hi Guys I have just rebuilt my pedal box new servo etc... When i went to re-fit it it doesn't! It is a RB conversion and i have bolted on a new clutch master cylinder for V8 (GMC 1011)but it doesn't fit in the recess? Have i actually got a 1011? the box says so but is it? Does anyone have a picture of one fitted? The books don't say i have to make any modifications to the bulkhead. If modifications are needed is there any way around it? I have resprayed the engine bay already and any modification would lead to tears! Thanks in advance Graham |

Graham - got any pics? Can't recall if you are doing a CB or RB. If CB/sngle circuit brakes - you haven't got the brake and clutch masters swapped over have you? Liam |

Liam Did you get the pictures i sent? Graham |

Graham The V8 Clutchmaster part number was BHA 5217 The pedal box was Ahh 8421 and cover AHH8556 I think many of the the American single line conversions will have been fitted from new with the V8 pedal box and cover otherwise the 1800 master AHH6553 and pedal box BHH1091 which is for dual line and servo. Look for a re-importer ? Roger |

Roger The V8 conversion book says the GMC1011 is the v8 clutch master cylinder. I have a rubber bumper UK car which i believe has still got the original pedal box. I am about 1/2 inch to high to get into the recess and there would be no way to remove the filler cap. Do you have a RB car? If so do you have a picture? and could i send you a picture? Thanks Graham |

Graham The Club and remanufacturers have changed many of the numbers and I only have the BL book to hand. I have a RB GTV8 with the original fit and would be glad to send you pictures or the diagrams from the parts book. If you want an off the cuff opinion from your pics pse do e-mail them asp. Don't be daunted - the end product is a very good driver's car by any standard ! Roger r.l.walker@btinternet.com |

Graham, Does the new master cylinder have a plastic reservoir? Geoff |
Geoff King |
Geoff It does have a plastic reservoir, The original 1800 one was metal. Graham |

Graham, I thought so; I had the same problem three or four years ago and posted a warning here and on the MGOC board. I bought mine from the MGOC and when I explained to them that it didn’t fit I was told “Yes, they are a bit tight”, more than a bit tight in my opinion. They exchanged it for an older one with the metal reservoir and that fits without any difficulty. I have the later UK spec, duel brake circuit pedal box and master cylinders. Geoff |

Geoff Would it be possible to get a picture of yours? Thanks Graham |

Does anyone know where i can get hold of a V8 clutch master cylinder with the metal body? It seems i may be talking about some major body modifications if i cannot get hold of one. Geoff, have you got a picture of yours? Thanks Graham |
GLG Lavis |
Graham, I sent you a photograph a week or so ago showing the master cylinder fitted to my car; is there a particular angle or detail you a looking for? The shell has a RB bulkhead and I believe the MGOC obtained an old style master cylinder from Dave Vale at V8 Conversions, but that was several years ago. (p/n BHA 5217 and BAU5158 are superseded by p/n GMC1011). Geoff |
Geoff King |
Geoff Can't find your mail with a picture attached, Have spoken to Clive Wheatley and MGOC and they do not have the old style master anymore. It is looking like i will have to cut out some of my bay, a bit annoying as it is all resprayed and ready for the engine, wish this had been mentioned in conversion books. Thanks Graham |

Graham, I’ve sent it again but you received the first time because you sent a reply. I also sent a reference to an eBay item that showed a plastic reservoir installed – you replied to that too. Geoff |

Graham, I emailed you with the contact for a chap I know who is breaking a V8. Liam |
