MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Are these springs actually needed
I have rebuilt the clutch and brake masters from a 72MGB to use in a 215/T5 conversion. After reassembly into the car (and not installing the pedal return springs) the units work fine. Can I leave the under dash pedal return springs off the car in order to reduce my foot effort? They seem only to aid the internal spring for returning the pedal to free condition. |

Do not install the springs. You need all the help with that Rover. It will help you on weight savings |

Scott, I recommend keeping the springs. They help make sure the cylinders return all the way so that the fluid return holes are open and fluid can return to the master cylinder from the brakes or clutch. Failure to uncover this return hole can cause the brakes or clutch to be held engaged, of course mostly when you don't want them to be. |

Put weaker springs in. |

I agree with Bill. I had an issue where insufficient spring tension cause the brakes to remain partially engaged. Heat, smoke, burning paint...it wasn't good. |
