MG MGA - wiring woes continued

Wiring woes continue. finally found the short in the back lights and after burning our my rear harness, I have made another and the running light and rar lights as well as head lights and fog lights work. when turning on the car, the fuel pump works and the car starts. Success you say, no not at all. I originally decided to rewire because I had no brake lights and when turning the car on, the upper fuse would burn out. when disconnecting the wire to the brake lights, the fuse would not burn out.

Now I can turn the car on and the fuse doesn't burn withe the brake light connected. The fuel pump works as well. But when I step on the brake or turn on the wiper motor the fuse blows. The turn signals do not work. Suggestions. still a short, bad stop lamp switch, bad turn signal relayer or flasher unit. Any suggestions, let me lnow. I will not give up

Michael,
I don't think there is anything in common with the wiper and the brake/turn signals, so most likely this is two separate problems.

Are you sure you have the wires for the wiper motor on the correct terminals. I know that if you get any of them on the wrong terminal it can blow the fuse.

The brake and turn signals are common, so I would double check the wiring for the relay, and also for another short at the rear harness to the taillamps.

Went back out to the garage and disconnected the wiper motor and this eliminated the blown fuse. turned on the turn signal switch and the front side lamp works. You can hear the rhymthmic clicking of the relay. when going the other way, lights get bright for a second and then no clicking. In fact hot wire to the signal flasher.

If one side flashes correctly, and the other causes the wire to the flasher to get hot, and pressing the brake causes the fuse to blow, then I would suspect that you have a short to ground. It would be somewhere on the wire between the turn signal relay, and the rear stop/turn lamp, and on the opposite side from the side that is working correctly.
