MG MGA - Wiring Loom

I am ready to put the body back on the chassis.
Does the wiring loom need to go on the chassis first?
Is there a diagram for the location of the loom available?

The body can go on first. Not seen a wiring loom routing diagram. However, there are diagrams of the firewall that show what each hole is for.

The main loom runs under the right hand side of the chassis. If you look underneath you will see a number of welded brackets, each with a hole. These are for holding cable clips that contain the loom, battery cable and fuel pipe.

You can go both way's in the factory the put the wiring loom on the chassis (is a lot easier for connecting the fuelpump, and puting the loom on the round bar on the back) i have a picture for the firewall on my site by Tips and Tricks

Colin, I am just installing my wiring harness. The body is back on the frame but I left the fenders and doors off.
I now wished I had preinstalled clips/hangers for the harness aft of the fuel pump on the inside of the frame.
I had to go outside of the frame just inside of the right rear wheel. I used extra long floor board bolts on the right side of the passenger side to give me lots of places to bolt on P clips to fasten the fuel, brake & wiring too. I used them all.
I purchased a new harness from British Wiring. I posted my experiance on the Rust Restoration BBS on this site.
Their bullets don't always fit the connectors and I ended up using old bullets and connectors from my old harness so don't throw away your old wiring harness.
Barney Gaylord has a written description of the harness routing which I found useful.
I started my wiring project at the headlight dip switch and then worked my way across the shelf, across the right side of the engine compartment then the front.
My harness was delivered in four sections with no instructions. I used the direction light wires to determine which end was which for front & back harnes orientation. The wiring schematic in the MGA manual is a must.
I have some pictures of the harness in another car under restoration which might help or I can take some of my installation if it will help.
I havn't started the dash yet. I am going to build a braket to hold the dash off the scuttle 6 inches so that I can work from above when wiring the switches & guages
If I can help contact me off line.
Cheers
Morris
