C y'all there..

G T Foster

I will be there for a day to view the field albeit in a non brit ride! Looking forward to seeing some of you there and to seeing what the A will look like when greater powers decide that it is time for my project to be complete.

Ken

I will be there.....I'm taking a B'GT ..and a Rocker Cover Racer........Tom
Thomas Koch

I'm ready and so is the '59! Me and YD3 818 will be leaving on Father's Day to hook up with the MGB V8 crowd for a couple of days in nearby Townsend, do a little Dragon slaying and then on to Gatlinburg.

Safety Fast down I 81 via Lexington or maybe Abingdon, Va. Then onto the Great Smokies. For better than average accomodations, try the Hampton Inn in Lexington. An old mansion conversion near the college. In Abingdon, there's the Martha Washington Inn--an old womans college--again restored mansion type with bar and dining room.

See you there!

Paul
Paul Hanley

...just realized! Not an OLD womans college but should have said," a now defunct college for woman". Too many beers..
Paul Hanley

Alaways P.C., aren't we, Paul?!

:-)

Rick--back at ya ;)

JEFF,

Almost forgot. WOW!!! all-the-way from Californ-I-A. Unless we get a Washington Stater, looks like you'll be in the running for the Long Distance Award. You'll have Robert Milner, of the famous Shock and Awe Valve Cover team, on your trail though!

Better than all of that, you get the drive of a lifetime. Which mountain pass have you choosen? Corn Palace is BOGUS, btw.but the Badlands are not to be missed if you're going that way. Have fun and be safe one and all.

Cheers,

Paul
Paul Hanley

Going to Gatlinburg next week, but can't make it for the GT. :(
Maybe next year.. hopefully.
mike parker

going to the conversion meet first, staying whole week in gatlinberg, will have to drive back and forth to townsend, bringing 2 cars on the trailer, truck full of wife, kids and stuff. jim

Paul,
I am taking my $75,000,000 vehicle. It should be nice and comfy inclucing beer and wine. I am taking the most direct route or the route that the JET takes me and the family. Since it would take about 5 days to drive there and it would be very crowded with four of us in the car and the kids fighting who has to sit up and get bugs in their teeth, and oh where would my wife put her luggage. No woman can leave home without at least two cases or one hugh one. This will be our kids summer vacation as we are coming in early to Nashville to tour the area and then on to see Elvis and get some of those great ribs, to the Peabody Hotel where they have live ducks come down in the elevator and enter the lobbey via a RED carpet to the pond in the lobby. Unless they give an award for who flew the furthest, I don't stand a chance in hell of WINNING. I will see all of you there!!!!
JEFF BECKER

Jeff...we have enthusiasts coming in from Australia, England, and the Netherlands....they are looking forward to this meet as well!

Jim...Barrie Eggerton will be in Townsend for the V8 meet as well as G'Burg. So will Roger Williams (author of "How To Give Your MG V8 Power).

Don Hayter *may* be in Townsend, depending upon when he arrives in Tennessee from he and Mary's visit to California.

Ken Costello is arriving in Townsend on the 17th and will be attending both meets as well.

I'll be there too with several MGs from Rockburn. Only 1,000 miles one way! BUT --- my water pump started to make ominous noises yesterday. Looks like my week-end work is cut out for me.

Bud Kruger, if you're stil interested in looking at the unique exhaust on Joann McGerrigle's TF (T-Talk), she'll be there.

For those of you, that think you know a lot about MGs, you'll have a chance to prove yourselves and win a case of top-quality Canadian wines, or some Qubec maple syrup.

Step up you MG hotshots! Put your money where the action is!

well, posted last week about the planned trip, yesterday while driving the A the starter relay burned out, had it towed to the local brit car shop, last night some holigan decided to do some slam dancing on top of my car, shattered the windscreen including the frame, collapsed the boot lid and one front fender, around 5 to 6k in damages, most likely will not make the meet now as i do not think i can find a body shop to do the repairs within a week, i thought that full moon last night had a message in it?? jim

I and several others from Minnesota are going. It seems that we may have issues with the routing as indicated by a recent mailing from the MG Registers talking about routes and drive times. Having the car show 20 miles away with a drive time of over an hour does seem a bit extreme. Also having trailer towing vehicles parking a long way away from the hotels simply will not work for many. I have great hopes for this wonderful event and hope that it is every bit a good as MG 2001.
JP Jim

FWIW...

There is an excellent trolley system available in G'Burg. Both trailer parking areas are on the trolley route. You will be assigned a parking lot upon your arrival in G'Burg. Parking is tight at all hotel properties, hence our restrictions.

Yes, this is a new concept for us.

Yes, it is different.

We are simply asking for your cooperation in making this work for all involved.

Open space is at a premium in the Smokies, especially for the display of 1000 vehicles or so. The Visitors' Center on Cosby fits our needs. The drive to Cosby from G'Burg is mostly at a posted speed limit of 45mph.

BTW...The car show has NEVER been advertised as bing on Saturday. It may have been ASSUMED by some to be held then.

rick
rick ingram

Rick, As soon as we leave Gatlinburg towards Cosby it really doesn't take a lot more than 20 minutes. What is going to take a while is 1000 MG's on that route. It is well paved, opens up nicely, but when you have that many cars going to the same place, there will be a bottle neck develop. It did that at Indy 96 as I recall, but I had air conditioning then too!

I drive it all the time and I generally cruise about 65 or so. Not a lot of cars going away from Gatlinburg, just trying to get to it. And even then, they usually come in thru Pigeon Forge, very few go thru Cosby.

Mark...you are absolutely right!...rick
rick ingram

all the planning sounds pretty solid to me, except for the ticket deal, but i regress, so maybe stage the exit to the show? A's first? 30 minutes later B's. etc? just a thought, or how about we close the road on the other end and use both outgoing lanes?? it all sounds like fun, jim
james madson

I just made hotel reservations. We'll be there Thursday and Friday. We've never been to one of these. What should we expect. We did go to an all British meet near Columbus OH last Spring. How will this compare?
Kemper

MG2006 will be HUGE. We have over 1000 MGs (and a couple of "other British" cars) that were registered as of June 9th. There will be more register on-site.

On Thursdays registrants with MG2006 nametags can attend tech sessions and meet and greets (with such personalities as Don Hayter, Roger Williams, and Ken Costello). Carl Heideman is bringing the Classic Motorsports MG midget that has been featured the past year or so.

Friday is the car show at the Visitors' Center "on Cosby", TN...about 20 miles outside of Gatlinburg towards I-40 on SR321. The valve cover racing will be held there as well as the "Talking Tours" of the various models of MG. The "Special MGAs and other MGs" will also be "front row center" for your viewing pleasure on the show field.

Friday night is "Register Night", and each register has planned activities. NAMGAR will have its First Timers' Reception and a Banquet that evening.

This event only comes around every 5 years...and is a "must do" for most enthusiasts!

rick
rick ingram

Will there be vendors? Do you have a specific address for the car show area and/or the vendor area?
Kemper

Here is a list of vendors to date. We are
certain to add more, as we've had inquiries almost daily. Note...Inside means at the Glenstone Lodge in Gatlinburg. Outside means at the Glenstone Lodge in Gatlinburg. Show means at Cosby. If a vendor is not listed for a particular area, he or she has not chosen to set up vending at that spot.

You CANNOT miss the Visitors' Center on Cosby...it's at the t-insection of SR321...just a short drive off of the Foothills Parkway exit of I-40.
