MG MGA - wanted - RHD MkII stainless steel dash finisher

Hi all,
I'm looking for an original stainless steel under-dash finisher for a RHD MkII MGA if anyone can help. The Moss reproduction is a very poor fit and, being chrome plated, won't deal well with modification do fix the large gaps at the corners. I'm converting my car from from left to right hand drive.

If anyone has cut and re-welded a LHD version, I would be interested to hear how it went and to see pictures.

Thanks for any help,
Mark

Sorry, I can't help you with a dash finishing strip Mark, have you tried Bob West to see if he has a spare one?
You need to call him because his website has been hacked and it is no longer under his control.

His landline was 00441977703828 but I am not sure if it still connected to him.
Let me know if you can't contact him, I have his mobile number.

On the subject of MGA dashboards, I am looking for a metal radio blanking plate that I can paint in body colour so I can finish it to match my newly resprayed bodywork.

Does anyone out there know where I can get one?

Cheers

Metal Micky shows them at £14 each. ARH59K http://www.sportscarmetalworks.com/mga/ Scroll down to MGA Dashboard, then 12th item.

Mark. You might try him also. He has second hand dashboard bits.

Thanks for the suggestions Colyn and Steve.
I will give Michael a try.

Radio blanking plates are on eBay. I believe MGB and MGA are the same.
I stripped one and had it painted and it looks good. The only difficulty may be the chrome surround which may not be a perfect fit in the dashboard from memory. I had one from an original Philips radio which fits well.

Anglo Parts has the RHD strip at € 100

Thanks Dirk,
Does anyone have experience with fitting the one offered by Anglo Parts? If it’s from the same source as the Moss offering, it will not fit as supplied.

I have just realised I have a superb, albeit unique radio blanking cover left over from my 1997 restoration.

Thanks for your kind offer Steve, I can tell from the picture that it is an "original" MG radio blanking cover.
It must be an original MG part because I am pretty sure that there will not be another one like it anywhere! :^)

I would be very interested in buying your unusual steering wheel as well, its deep dish design would help me from having to stretch out quite so far forwards to reach the wheel and it also would act as a built in anti theft device for all but the skinniest of car thieves. :^)

I did manage to buy a new metal radio blanking plate which is painted in a black crackle finish, so thanks everyone for all the suggested suppliers.
I am having it stripped and repainted in smooth finish in body colour.

Maybe an alternative is to use a piece of piping the same colour as the seat piping. I did this in my car, just clipped it to the edge of the dash panel using (a lot of) D clips. I thought it was so nice (bright red against an OEW dash) I sold the original dash chrome finisher I had found at an auto jumble without ever fitting it.
Dominic Clancy

Interesting idea Dominic, but I would like to retain the original format.

Hi Dominic...advising Mark to use an "alternative" is like telling him to put a Nissan badge on a Ford!LOL.
Mark (you won't mind me saying this??) is one of the "original brigade"...like an unnamed Victorian enthusiast who searched for the studs under the floorboards that the seat screws go into...they must have the three dots on them or they are wrong!! I was happy to successfully assist him in his search.

Dominic, hope life in Thailand is treating you well, and you are getting plenty of diving done?

Gary Lock

Can't argue with the truth, Gary!

Now, if you have any more of those captive floor nuts... :-)
Mark Wellard

Ok Gary
You can out me on that one

However have you looked at my YT lately

Gary,
There is more than one of “the original brigade” down here! Whatever you do don’t use bolts with the correct amount of dots on the head

Mike, that would be an interesting story...what did you do??
Gary Lock

Sorry Gary, typo, I meant incorrect amount of dots…
