MG MGA - Twin Cam heater shelf dimensions

Hi all

More exploration of fitting a Derrington head to a 1600. Can someone measure the position of the hole in the bulkhead shelf for the heater in a twin cam. On my 1600 the hole is 190mm from the centre line towards the wiper motor and 80mm the other side. So its offset by about 55mm to the wiper motor side.

On the twin cam I know the hole is not in the same place and wondered if it was just reversed?

I took the centreline as the centre body mounting bolt on the bulkhead shelf.

I was wondering whether I might cut the hole in my shelf to suit the twin cam heater. The enlarged hole with a blanking plate would be under the fan end of the twin cam heater and may not show. I am just musing at the possibilities at the moment.

Also I have bought some AUC 878 carbs for a TR3 and the choke linkages are much longer than the twin cam carbs AUC 877T and fould the chassis. Does anyone know where I might get the linkages for the 877's. Burlen does not list them as spares but they look the same as the levers for the H4's on the 1600 engine.

Thanks

John

John,

I don't think this is necessary. On my car, I reversed the heater successfully without altering the hole. Everything still fits.

Hi Mark

Thanks, yes I saw your photo and its ok but I can be a perfectionist! I was wondering if a blanking plate could enable both both solutions to be installed with the either heater box in the correct position or should I say more pleasing position.

I'm trying to save you the trouble of chopping things up and spoiling an intact panel
.
