MG MGA - tool kits

Hi all , just an idle thought, but what happened to all the tool kits that came with these cars, the bits are virtualy indistructable which must must mean there are thousands of them out there somewhere hidden in sheds and garages cause none of them seem to be with the cars anymore

You are right - but they keep appearing on ebay regularly and go for exorbitant prices - however,I did find a Shelley pump at a steam rally in cumbria last year for £3, and a jack complete with handle at the same rally this year for £5 - good hunting - cheers Cam

FWIW:

When I bought my TD, the tubular sockets, wrenches, distributor tool, valve stem tool, and tappet guage were in the box. However the hammer, pliers, and screw drivers were missing. My guess is they wound up in the junk drawer of someone's house for house hold chores. The other items were car specific and weren't needed inside.

So, my theory is most of those tool kits were taken out of the boot, and merged with those in the house. "Honey, I can't find any pliers. Can you find me one?" So, the MG owner raids the car's kit.

My father used to tune pianos and in the kit were pliers, wire cutters, wood cement, screw drivers, and piano specific tools. Until Dad obtained more comprehensive home tools, he would sometimes use tools from it. That's because some kid took the house pliers somewhere and didn't return them. The only reason why the piano tuning kit is still complete is it was forbiddin territory including the wood cement!

I am intrigued by your Shelley pump or is it a typo for jack? Can you give me more details for my research.
