MG MGA - TC Engine on eBay

Just to let everyone know, I have bid upto my max and the reserve has not been met. So good luck to the guys that have deeper pockets than mine. So for now I will wait for another.

Sorry Don, these things certainly aren't cheap these days. Have you been in contact with any of the MG Vintage Racers? Perhaps someone there might have a lead on an engine. http://www.mgvr.org/
You might also try Kent Prather, I believe he's built a couple for customers in the past. http://www.networksplus.net/kprather/

Don,

I assume that you were bidding on on Ebay item 4636883479 which has just finished.
It is a bit odd that it had a reserve as Ebay normally states at the end of an auction "reserve not met". While the auction was underway I did not see the reserve notification, which is always shown.
Also, as the highest bidder on an Ebay auction where the reserve is not met you have the right to negotiate with the seller.

A big Congrats, Don!! Wish you all the best getting your new motor up and running. See, it was meant to be. Remember the block that went for 5g's a short while ago. You got a steal!

Don,

It is always good to see a spare Twin Cam engine going back into a Twin Cam car.
I guess that you will strip and rebuild it. All the information you need is on the Yahoo Twin Cam website.
However, warnings for the early strip down phase:
(a) When you undo the camshaft bearing caps ensure that you do all six nuts in a sequence, about one hexagon flat at a time. Removal of one cap by itself will usually cause the spring pressure to break the camshaft.
(b) When the cylinder head is on, do not turn a camshaft or the crankshaft unless the timing chain is fitted and the valve timing correct. Failure to do this will cause bent valves.

Glad to hear you now have your cherished TC. From what I've read about these engines (such as the good advice given by Mick above) you really should consult a specalist when it comes time for disassembly and rebuild. Congratulations again.

Congrats Don glad to help if needed.

Excellent advice from Mick - too many broken cams out there!

When you get around to rebuilding, feel free to contact me - lots of little tricks learned over the years to improve Twincam engines.

While on the subject of twin cams, I have two TC oil pans that I want to sell. I bought them thinking I could use them for a current engine build. Unfortunately, I've decided to use a five main bearing block, and the oil pans will only fit three main blocks, either TC or pushrod B-series engines through 3 main MGB models.

I've offered them to Jim Alcorn in a voice mail message. If Jim passes, I thought that I would offer them up to enthusiasts on the BBS before posting them on eBay. I am asking $450 each - about what the Al overflow tanks are selling for currently. Both are in very good shape and I can send pictures and more details, if anyone expresses an interest.
