MG MGA - Steering wheel clips

I have my nice shiny new steering wheel centre and the 4 clips.
How do I use the clips to fix it? Do I attatch them to the centre piece, then push it in?
Art Pearse

Art - Just checked mine; they're pressed over the raised circular ridge at the backside of the centerpiece 90 degrees from each other with the flat side of the clips on the inner side & the side with the barbs facing outwards.

Don't use the clips - if you ever have to get it off again it may be damaged in the process.

The trick is to wrap a couple of layers of insulation tape around the bit that fits into the steering wheel boss, just enough to hold it in place and allow it to be removed with a fingernail in the future if necessary. This tip was passed to me by Grahame Davies at Moto-Build and has worked for me for more than 20 years. I probably have some clips somewhere in a box in the cellar!

Thanks Dominic!

Tape worked just fine. Thx again.

Somewhere?? I thought everything in you cellar was clearly labelled and indexed Dominic!

Hi Chris
Yes , but.... Things that haven"t been needed for more than 25 years are not as easy to recall from the mental index. They should be in the box marked Trim...... If memory serves......

I had never heard of these clips before this thread. You learn something new every day! The number of times that disc ended up in my lap before I used tape! I had always assumed that the loose fit was 1950s manufacturing tolerances!

I just used a 3 pieces of kleenex wrapped across the extended ring that the clips fit to. Fold up double or triple (as required) to get a snug fit. Each to their own.
