MG MGA - Steering Col Support Bracket
I need to fit the lower support bracket for the steering column which would appear to be located somewhere in the area of the pedals. The manual shows a bracket which would appear to fit underneath a near level surface and then connect to the column by a clamp. I have the clamp fitted to the top end and the clamp itself for the lower end is installed but nothing tying it to the footwell. Neither Moss not MGOC show the bracket (only the clamp) and I can't see it on the bodywork illustrations. Its part no 56 in the manual. Can anyone help on this one please? |

It bolts to the goalpost - I will take a photo for you |

Thanks Dominic. Is the goal post the bracketry associated with the foot pedals? Do you know where I might get one from? |

Mike, I thought I had better join in as my name is included in the thread title!😁 I noticed the rubber tubing around the pedal return and i wondered if you had you had lowered the pedals like I did? Also, (this time -unlike my car) an amazingly clean footwell! Cheers Colyn |

Ah! It's much further down than I expected. I was think "my" side of the pedals. I shall have a poke around down there. Not a complicated bracket - it looks to be in two halves. |

Graeme The bracket is 1 piece. The slots for the clamp allow for adjustment of the steering column. Brian |

Mike, does the rubber tubing on that cross piece just help soften the return of the pedals, as it's usually metal to metal?...not a standard item. |
Gary Lock |
Gary, this may not be the reason that Mike has the rubber tube but I fitted a similar one onto the pedal return bar on my car to stop the pedals from lifting too high after I adjusted the master cylinder rods to drop the pedal height an inch or so. ( To try to give me a bit more leg room) If you dont fit the rubber tube, the return spring lifts the pedals back to the original standard height and negates any advantage of the adjustment. (This adjustment has transformed the driving position and overall comfort on my car) Colyn |

Colyn,Gary, No, I just thought it would be a good idea to reduce any banging noise on pedal return as Gary suggested. The photo was taken four years ago when I had just completed a restoration and explains the cleanliness..........................Mike |

No-one seems to hold this bracket now although a number show it "in stock" until you ask. Bob West has come up with the goods with a second hand item. My thanks to Bob! |
