MG MGA - Silverstone

This is for we humble single camshaft owners too!

It would be nice to put faces to some of the names on this forum, does anyone have a good idea on how those of us going to Silverstone can meet up?

I will be travelling down on Friday afternoon with my good wife and will hopefully find somewhere nice to camp. We will spend Saturday at the circuit and travel back up to the Lakes on Sunday morning.

It's our first time to Silverstone so I would welcome any suggestions or advice.

If the weather is nice you will have a geat time.

We usually arrange to meet up at the MGA stand or the bar next door both of which are on the inside of the circuit near the trade stands on Saturday afternoon.

The MGA race will be on Sunday this year (I think) although some 'A's will be out in other races as well.

I won't be there this year as the date clashes with our annual pilgrimage to Le Mans.

The Travel Lodge at Willen Lake Milton Keynes is cheap and not far away. Also close for a change of theme ( and something for Mrs McGurk maybe) is Woburn Abbey - the house is fantastic. When a group of us went over for the 50th at Silverstone, I took them there on Sunday morning while I went visiting friends, and it was a big hit. Also close by is Bletchley Park.

For camoing, there used to be a camp site behind the Rose and Crown pub at Ridgemont (about 1 mile from J14 M1)

That's all I can suggest.

Thanks Dominic, appreciate it.

Hi Neil, Let us know how you get on - I've been meaning to get to Silverstone for a number of years now (and Le Mans too - John).Perhaps next year we can arrange a group drive down , seeing that you are the advance scouting party !! cheers Cam

Will do Cam! Be cool to have our own little convoy.

John how the devil are you. I should be back into MGA circles soon having been without an A for far too long.

Was planning to take my A to Silverstone on Sunday and meet up with some of you guys. So I took her out for a run on Saturday evening to make sure everything was ok - about 10 miles - and she was running beautifully. When I got back, however, I noticed oil on my left shoe - she had emptied practically all the hydraulic fluid out of the clutch pushrod boot and down into the footwell (luckily I have the rubber mats, which collected most of it). So she never made it to Silverstone. I did, went in my modern TF, but was too shamefaced to visit the MGA Register car park, so slummed it instead with the MGFs. Didn't quite ruin my day - managed to get a good deal on a new master cylinder and a litre of silicon brake fluid in the Trade City, so I shall be busy this week, after a visit to Brown and Gammons for some other bits. Timing is everything ... Hope to see you guys next year. PS. Saw a really nice MGC Sebring Replica, wonder if they might do a straight swap with a rather incontinent MGA 1600 Mkll ..... PPS. Great collection of K3s in the marquee - perhaps if I sold the house ..... Adrian B

Yep Silverstone as ever was the one event of the year not to miss.
Even though I thought it was a little quite this year, must have been cos John went to Le Mans

Saw Terry Drinkwater's absolutely stunning Twin Cam Coupe. Terry what a great job, I can not remember ever seeing a better car. In fact I can not remember ever seeing a car that even got close. You are an asset to the MG Car Club and our friendly fraternaty. The best bit was the I.D. plate :-)) Just how it ought to be..

Mark welcome back to the fold hope to catch up with you at one of the events.

Bob, sorry to have missed you, I still owe yo a pint. When are you going to enlighten us on the midget Turbo project?
