MG MGA - Silicone Tappet Cover Gaskets

Hi,
I've read a few of the archived responses but can't seem to get a clear idea as to what type of sealant to use with these silicone gaskets.
Should only the cover side be "glued" ? What about the engine side ?
I've got them on but appear to have some leakage. I used gasket sealant ( "red" Permatex ) on the cover side & engine side - applied thinly.
Are these gaskets any good ?

Thanks,

Normally you would only use sealant on the engine side of the gasket. This creates a dam effect, preventing the oil from leaking out between the block and the gasket. The valve cover would be left clean, but the outer edges must be "true" for proper sealing pressure to be applied to the gasket. This also allows easy removal of the cover for valve work etc.

I used blue silicone. Follow Barney's valve cover instructions here : http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/ch107.htm and you'll be in good shape.
