MG MGA - Shelley 6 Inch Jack

Back to my 'anorak' Shelley jack hobby.

Most of us are now familiar with the 3 types of jacks supplied with the MGA. Clausager and Barney are both united with the facts and I can only assume they are well researched and correct. The 3 types are: 'bow tie' King Dick for the early cars; Shelley LJ23 for the middle period; and LJ225 for the final production cars. Barney covers it well here: http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/tools/tf130.htm . What he also shows is a Shelley 6 inch 'bow tie' jack, almost identical to the King Dick that he states was not original equipment for the MGA.

The data I have collected for the Shelley 6 inch jack indicates that it was supplied with the MGTC, MGTD, mgtf and Austin Healey 100-4 BN1. So it can be certain that this jack was in abundance on the Abingdon and Longbridge production lines for some years prior to MGA production. When Healey production transferred to Abingdon in 1957, Shelley supplied the cars with the LJ21.

I ramble on. It does, nevertheless make me wonder if any of these Shelley 6 inch jacks that may have been left over from MGTF production found their way into some very early MGAs before switching over to the King Dick. I think we have seen a number of examples of MG raiding the various parts bins to keep production going.

Any information would be welcome.
