MG MGA - Scarborough Fair Coupe Headliner

Gentleman: F.Y.I. I just completed the installation of the new & improved headliner supplied by Scarborough Faire. I had zero issues with the installation, fit like a glove.. I have installed coupe headliners supplied by Moss in the past and feel that the liner supplied by Scarborough is a hell of a lot better than what is supplied by Moss in reguards to quality & fit.

Mackay,
It sounds like Cecelia was true to her word and made the headliner about 2" longer and wider! I had installed a Moss headliner when I did my Coupe and just could not stand the fit so I removed it and sent it back and installed SF's (about 3 years ago). Have a good day!

Mackay, I'm very pleased that Cecelia came through for you. I got my headliner from her about a month ago and now am ready to install it. I'm putting the body back on the chassis tomorrow, and then will be ready. I was going to take it to a local upholstery shop but if it's not too difficult I would try it myself. Do you have any installation advice.

Thanks Andy 60 Coupe 90% estored.

Greetings to all and Happy New Year,

My wife purchased a headliner from S.F. last Christmas and having read the lengthly thread regarding S.F.'s headliner, I called Cecelia to get clerification on the matter and to see if I should send my back now rather than waiting until I was ready for the installation, only to find mine having the same issue. As usual, she and I had a long discussion on the subject. Unlike many, I could talk to her for hours. What a character she is! Extremely knowlegable and very much enjoys talking about the cars we love and enjoy. Great resource!
Anyway, she explained the reason the previous headliners were "short". At the factory, it seems the headliners were about two inches longer and wider. However, after these were glued/installed, the extra material was trimed away to the edges of the hardtop. Since she had removed an original headliner to make the patttern that S.F. used to reproduce their product, it was extactly the correct length and as such, made it extremely difficult to stretch to the edge as required. So, the new and improved headliners have the extra material which will be helpful during installation, but will then need to be trimed prior to trim and window seal installation. Makes sense to me. Anyway, I bought mine from her because the material used is nearly a dead on match for the original. She ask me to send mine back and she would check the measurements to ensure mine was the new and improved length/width. Should it be an older version, she said she would remake it to the new measurements. ANyway, I thought a further explaination might be in order. Cheers!!!!

I didn't get involved in the previous discussion because it seemed to be a personal attack on someone for whom I have a high regard. But, what you are saying confirms what I thought at the time.

A while back, on this board, there was a discussion about headliner installation and some posters said theirs was turned over the glazing flange. Mine had been removed by a previous owner but showed no sign of having ever been wraped over the flange, so that is how I installed my older SF headliner. Without much difficulty I might say. I think it is possible, if they were all originally wraped around the metal flange, that many were cut by the sharp metal edge and the outer piece discarded at some time.

FWIW, installing a headliner in a coupe is best done on a hot day in summer. If you do it in the cold of winter, when the car heats up the headliner can look like a Sharpei as it sags....
