Thanks guys that info was really helpfull. Just one more thing for Gil and Steve if its not too much to ask, would u possibly be able to send me a picture of the exact location of the chassis no. that has been stamped into the frame??? It is a right hand drive Steve. The body no of the car is B28682 if that helps at all. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Im from Ladysmith South Africa Steve Thanks Rich |

Richard It was a new one on me until Gil mentioned it so I went and checked in Clausager and he is right. However, the Clausager notes that it was not always stamped on the chassis. These are his words: "It is worth noting that the chassis number was at least sometimes stamped on the frame; cars have been reported both with and without the number stamped in. The location is the horizontal top surface of the box section crossmember at the rear of the gearbox, on the right0hand side of the gearbox cover tunnel, approximately three to six inches from the tunnel. The number stamped here will simply be the five-orsix figure number without any prefix." I cannot find the number on my chassis - it's an ex USA car. Steve |

Richard Your body number looks correct for the car. I do not have the data to link that to a specific chassis. You may hit it lucky and someone can provide a very adjacent body number linked to a specific chassis. However, I don't think accurate records were kept by the factory. The same applies with engine numbers. They can be a bit random. May be someone else on this site can narrow it down a bit. Steve |

Richard, Sent you an email with the stuff off the twin cam site, hope it helps. <MARK> |

As I have been told, body numbers were allocated in blocks of 1000 and there is no strict correlation between body number and chassis number. It should be within approx. 1000 of the chassis number start. Even an adjacent body number may not help as coupes and roadsters were assigned consecutive chassis but the bodies would be from different blocks of numbers. |
