MG MGA - paint scheme for a 1500 motor
My '57 1500 (bored to 1600) is due back from the machine shop any day now. Can somebody point me to a resource explaining how everything should be painted? I'm talking starter, generator, coil, fan, pulleys, brackets etc. I have Clausenger's book, but haven't found such detail there. Thank you

Barney Gaylord has a section on the painting of the engine compartment that fits with most things that I have read. Check it out. www.mgaguru.com He is a wealth of information and help on the MGA. Fair to say that I spend quite a few hours there!

Anyone know if I can safely assume that a 54 Magnette would be the same? Cheers, John

I would say so John, this is based on the fact that the engine and ancillaries were built up as a unit and painted, before installation. IMO for a show/concours car the ancilliaries could be painted there own manufaturers colours because if after testing at the factory a dynamo failed, it would simply be replaced by one from the box. Hence it would leave the factory with a matt black dynamo that had alloy ends.
