MG MGA - Moss Plastic Cooling Fan for MGA

I finally got around to installing the Moss plastic cooling fan on my MGA. Why? Well, the blades on my metal fan were out of balance and one of them was coming loose around the rivets. I thought it was a good opportunity to give it a try. My car always ran a little hot, but normal for my car I suppose. With the new fan it runs about 5 degrees cooler at idle and the temp does not creep us as fast. Important in Tokyo stop and go driving. Driving temp has stayed constant at around 195-200.

All in all I am pleased with the performance. I will add that if my metal fan was not in the shape it was in, I would not have changed it.

Tommy
is your fan the 6 blade Moss fan or the 7 blade asymmetrical Moss type?

I would be interested to have your opinion on how much noise it makes compared to the original metal one.

Before I went to the twin electric fan set up on my car I replaced the original metal fan with an NTG injection moulded plastic fan. The NTG fan has really well designed curved section rigid blades which are a bit wider and a bit longer than the standard fans. I had to bend up the finger guard on the back of the radiators top tank to prevent the blades from catching on it.
The fan worked really well and it reduced the coolant temperature by 10 degrees F.

But it made a very distinctive howling noise at higher revs that made the car sound more like a bus than a sports car.

I may at some time switch back to an engine driven fan and so your comments would be appreciated.

Tommy I'm interested also and would appreciate a photo of your set-up.

Tommy, I sold you the door kick panel and door sill panels. Did you ever install those? Just curious.
