MG MGA - more on the oil issue

The current edition (winter 2009) of the Moss publication British Motoring has an interesting article on the subject of oil for our British cars. I found it interesting, but won't go into the details here. You can read it at www.britishmotoring.net, go to the Contents section and click on the article about oils. Of course, Moss offers products to solve the problem, including oil formulated for classic cars, which may finally be a solution for those still unsure of what to do.

George,

I read the article last week. It sounds like the zinc issue becomes moot if you run your car on a regular basis. So I say, lets run our cars on a regular basis!

Oil and zinc content have been the subject of many discussions in recent years on this forum. I am one of those daily drivers. I started off using a classic 20/50. When a lot of US drivers reported that they were using fully synthetic oil I switched to a semi-synthetic 20/50. This last year I have been using a fully synthetic 10/40. I have certainly found the engine more responsive and lively with the latter and, touch wood, no apparent adverse effect.

Thanks for the link. The other article on the page about superchargers also drew my attention...deep sigh. Must speak to the wife again about releasing some funding!!

Steve, regarding superchargers, I drove Carl Heideman's MGB with the SC (the one shown in the Moss article) and it was fantastic. Having owned and driven an MGB for 12 years, I can say that the SC offers a great improvement in the performance of the car. I think Carl may have also added a mild performance cam as well. I would assume that such a modificataion to an MGA would show similiar performance improvements.
