MG MGA - MGA V8 on Ebay

Thought you might like to see this example of a an MGA V8, currently on UK Ebay:

Coincidently, this car is featured in the latest edition of MG Enthusiast that is circulated with the monthly MGCC Safety Fast magazine.

It would appear there was initially some excitement that this may have been a factory prototype V8 MGA version in 1957. However, it was later discovered that the engine is a Daimler V8 of 1962 vintage. This engine type was fitted to the Daimler Dart SP250.

The article also notes that the vehicle was bought at auction (Barons) on 1 November 2005.

A rather ugly looking home engine swap (hate the flairs and silly cattle grids by the bonnet, but others may like them).

The Daimler engine is a really nice unit and I'm sure it makes an interesting MGA, had the aesthetics only been better looked after.

Valued at 15,000 quid? Dreaming!

If you follow his link in the advertisement, he has it on sale for £8995 ($15000). The MG article notes that a buyer paid £6880 at the auction.

Here is one in Florida.... I think I like the white one better.

I don't know - they are about equally ghastly. The hood scoop sucks (anyone heard of low rise intake or injection), but so do the chopped out bits next to the hood and that silly spoiler on the white one.

Why is it that every time anyone tries to improve on the lokks of an MGA they end up making it ugly? Only a very few modded cars I've see with rad openings akin to AC Cobras look at least decent.

Note the touting of a Heritage Certificate, like that does something to authenticate the car instead of simply saying - yup this was once an MGA....;-)
