MG MGA - MGA Required For Photo Shoot

I have just been contacted by a freelance motoring writer - Andrew Noakes. He is seeking someone with an original spec MGA (counts me out) for a motoring magazine photo shoot at RAF Bicester Aerodrome, Oxfordshire on 16 October. If anyone is interested let me know or contact Andrew directly at:

telephone: +44 (0)1584 823340
mobile: +44 (0)7980 293539
email: andrew@pgan.com

Worth a look at his website.

Is your car one of the 3 used in this months Classic Car Mart article? BRG/Racing Screen PSJ903?

Steve what does he require? I have an OEW Mk1 1500 roaster which I could make available if it suits the spec

Yes, it's a 1500 he is looking for. I suggest you give him a call or email.

Paul. That's my registration. I was not aware of the article. Looks like a trip to WH Smiths for a copy. I'm intrigued. Someone using my stuff without the courtesy of a request?

It isn't a mag I normally buy but when I saw an MGA (not yours) on the front of it in Tesco yesterday I bought it (November edition). The article is better than you often get and the photo of your car is by water by a blue ground mounted telescope. Your car looks superb.

Was it this one? If so, it is one of about 50 photos of my car owned by another freelance photographer, so I do not have any control. In fact I have to ask his permission to use them - which I have as long as they are not used for commercial purposes.

That one is taken at Lytham-St-Annes. It is the sea in the background looking SW towards Southport.

Yes that's the one, and the location makes sense.

I have just checked with the freelance photographer who has copyright on those photos. He did not know they had been used but said he did not mind! He said he is now the editor of the Kit Car magazine.

Having read the article I am surprised they used my non standard car, both external and the engine compartment. This is it: http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/CCW_1/Classic_Car_Mart_PSJ903.pdf

Steve,
Is your boot rack the Moss stainless steel? How is standing up - i have bought one for the big UK Europe in 2015.

Mike

It is possible it is a Moss product. I actually bought it from Bob West in 1998. I guess a number of his products come from the same supplier? It is stainless steel but is beginning to show its age, mainly on the boot mounting straps. The basic frame is still in very good condition. At the time Bob also had a version with a wheel-shaped retaining bar for holding the spare. I wish I had chosen that option as it holds the wheel lower down for better rear vision.

Mike and Steve,

Did you notice that the boot rack on the red MkII is fitted upside down? The longer arms on the rack support bars should be at the top. In the position in the photo, the bar of the rack goes through the MGA badge.

Mike,

We have a similar boot rack fitted to our 56 roadster and have done thousands of miles with it carrying a suitcase, and it works very well. it is chromed, not SS. (see "Cruise to the Capital" on www.namgar.com for our latest trip of over 6,500 miles).

Hello Steve,

I wish I was on the other side of the pond to offer my 1958 MGA up. I have been restoring this car for a very long time and last year I did the engine bay and had the an original MGA motor to put in. Sadly, that motor is out to the builder to be redone, having failed on a trip to the Monterey Autoweek for entry into the Concorso Italiano. They have a 'non-Italian' section which was an interesting side show to all those amazing Ferrari motor cars. I must say that sites like this one with all the support and interest have continuously inspired me to bring this car back to standard. Hopefully the engine repairs will bring it back to me for many more good years of enjoyment and the prospect of better shows and even photo shoots.

Here is a photo from earlier this year which was taken for California Car Cover.

Cheers,

That was the engine bay. Here is the Cal Cover photo.
