MG MGA - MGA Is On The Road!!!!!!
| After 5 loooooong years, I can finally drive my ashgreen MGA :) Lots left to do like the seats and carpet, etc., but it is drivable! The registration process here in Japan is a nightmare. Here are the things that I was told were unacceptable: no headrests no amber rear winkers no reverse light no hazards no 'seal' on windshield no 'stamp' on wheels no 3-point seat belts no side markers, amber in front, red in rear no reflectors in front or rear spinners stick out past the fenders no side mirrors incorrect speedo no engine number no formal engine displacement Fortunately I got a good inspector who took the time to actually look at the regulations in effect the year the car was manufactured, which trumps all new regulations. Everything was fine. The saving grace was I had a re-print of the original factory manual with me and was able to show how the car arrived new. No other A's in this region. None. I did a B here about 15 years ago and it took 6 months to pass. Everytime a new 'situation' would arise. Anyway, I received a lot of help from this BBS. Thanks! I hope I can share some info soon. | Tom, Where in Japan are you? I nice Twin Cam MGA was sold in Sydney, Australia and went to Kobe in Japan. There are several MGA's in the Kobe MG Car club. Mick |

Congratulations on your success! Going through the Bureaucratic Shuffle (BS) is a wonderfull thing when you win. Chuck

What about the buzzer that comes on if you drive faster than 50 MPH? :-)

Mick, I am in Kanagawa, literally 1 mile from Tokyo. Kobe is close in distance, but it takes a looooong time to get there. In this area, mine is the ONLY MGA registered and I know of only 3 others. There are probably more but I have never seen them. Several MGB's though. David, The buzzer only applies to commercial vehicles. I promise that it only works during the inspection and is quickly disconnected. Of course we use Km/h and drive on the left like in Australia and parts of the UK. I played the BS game by their rules. If we try to analyze or question it, we will loose. Just go through the motions....

If you want to play a BS game by the rules, try building a bulkhead on Puget Sound. Two years and $15,000 for permits, soil studies, fisheries reports, satellite photos, Army Corps on Engineers evaluation, septic system inspection, etc., etc. It only took 4 days to actually build the rock wall.
