MG MGA - MG A sealed beam lights USA version
Were there any MG A with sealed beam lights ?? |
Jose Vicente Vargas |
I think all US MGA's were required to have sealed beam headlights. |

According to Clausager, MGAs were "shipped...without light units...but with Ward and Goldstone adaptors for sealed beam headlights - typically made by GEC - to be installed locally" "from 1600 car/chassis 7022 and twin cam 2278...fitted with...headlamps incorporating sealed beam units (Lucas part number 58499)" |

Sealed beam headlights were mandated in the United States in 1940. Since about 90% of all MGA were exported to North America, that makes sealed beams very common in MGAs. |

A little clarification. Sealed bean headlamps (7-inch) were introduced in the US in 1940 and soon became mandatory. 5-3/4" round sealed beams were allowed in the US in 1957 (some states) and 1958 (all states). In 1975 rectangular sealed beams were allowed in the US. Replaceable bulb headlamps returned to the US in 1983. |
