Peter, looks superb. Is it OE white or dove grey? looks white but sometimes photos can be misleading. Reason I ask is that I am restoring a 1600 roadster just now, originally dove grey and would like to keep it that way, (you don't see many) but I'm really not sure how much I will like it!

Neil
Neil McGurk

Neil

Old English White which was the colour it was when it left the factory. the previous owner had resprayed it Red. The OEW against the red interior is stunning (see attached photo. Prior to purchasing my MGA I looked at a Dove Grey car and was not taken by the colour - perhaps an indication as to why they are not many about?

Peter

P B Chappell

Is this image an accurate version of Dove Grey?

Mick

Mick Anderson

Mick - looks accurate to me. - Neil - my friend's uncle had a dove grey 1600 - my friend used it from time to time to give it some exercise and service it, as his uncle was incapacitated , now sadly deceased. It was (still is?) a lovely car - immaculate in every respect - no expense spared - BUT from certain angles it looked as though it was still in primer. We agreed that if it were ours we would repaint it. Apologies to those reading this who have a Dove Grey car but it is just personal preference . Having said that, a lot of people don't like my black one and I must say I was looking for an OEW one before I found it - but I wouldn't change it now . FWIW cheers Cam
Cam Cunningham

Thanks Peter, it's really beautiful, I have a 1600 Mk2 that I will restore next and that I plan to do OEW and red (originally OEW and black), but I may sell that one.

I am currently driving an (origional) concours chariot red 1600 roadster and it, of course, looks superb.

And I have to say that, although it is the most "common" colour, I have yet to see another one on the road outside club activities!

I thought a really nice dove grey car would both "turn heads" and be somewhat special within our circles.

Mick, thanks for the pic. Is it a good picture of a bad colour or a bad picture of a rare colour?

Here's another picture that I think looks better. What do you reckon? OK, maybe that should be a rhetorical question - it's what I think that matters.

Poor old dove grey!

Oh, before I forget, Peter, it seems that there are two (possibly many more) red trim sets on the market, bright red and deep red. As I understand bright (poppy) red should be closest to original. Yours looks like the original colour, but which colour/supplier did you chose?

Wyatt,

I don't want to burst your bubble, but those "ultra rare" twin cam wheels appear to be from a TR6.

So what's under the hood?

j
John B

Neil

All interior and hood was supplied by Bob West. I am still awiting the hood - due any day now - which is grey. Bob has had some difficukty with the vinyl supplier getting an exact match with the original factory colour.

I thought you guys out there may like to see my version of what an A should be 1800 5 bearing 5 speed box, supergharger stronger front springs. But the standard seats will be next to go too uncomfortable. But I have kept all the standard bits to put back.

Here is a picture of an Iris Blue 1960 1600 GHNL/90954 I restored it and sold it. It is currently listed on the Holland register as being owned by someone in Holland. Koen thinks it was used in a TV show of some sort and remembers seeing it at a show. He was unable to get the owner to contact me. I have some pictures and the original VIN plate that the current owner may want.

Interesting, but certainly not Twincam wheels. Wrong rim, wrong centre, wrong knock offs, wrong nuts. Other than that.......

Not saying it isn't a Dunlop braked car that some owner cobbled together a substitute for missing wheels, but it would be interesting to hear just what it is.

This is cool, how do I insert the image? I don't see a "insert image here" button or anything else.
Dennis

Dennis:
Below the screen where you type in these messages is the word Upload (underlined) under the words Upload a picture.
Click on Upload.
A screen will pop up. Click on browse.
Browse through your computer, for me it is My Pictures. Choose the picture you want and highlight it. Once highlighted click on open.
A screen will pop up. click on submit. and wait patiently. If the picture file you chose is large it may take a while. This is why you should shoot smaller size pictures if you mean to upload them. If you choose too large a file for the system it will tell you so.
I am not sure of the limit here but this is the only MGA specific picture I had on this computer at home that is small enough to use. (not my car) It it 33 kb. The system rejected a 155kb picture. Some of my other pitures go up to a file size of over 10mb.

David Godwin! Wow, what a car! Now I think I'll go with red instead of the other 15 colors I've picked out...
Cleve

LP Pittman, Wow is that black? What color will the interior be?
James Johanski

James,
Yes, that's black. The interior will be red - it's the darker red that Moss sells for their seats & interior trim. I've attached a picture of one of the seats sitting in the chassis while it was being rebuilt. The white on the floorboards are just the patterns that I was using at the time. I'm getting anxious to drive it, but still have a lot to do.

Larry

LP Pittman

LP, that is my favorite color combo. I had one in high school with painted wires. Awesome!

Larry, That is the color combination of my very first car. My present A was originally OEW and I am debating if I should change the color to Black and Red or maybe Tan. HMMM????!!!!

gordon
g c pugh

That's how it worked in my family. Dad had 3 kids, he bought 3 MGAs. Here is a picture of mine taken last year, before I started taking it down. I had left it stored in the small town of Cordova on Prince William Sound where I grew up, since 2001 when I moved to Anchorage. When I finally went back for it, I towed it to Anchorage using the same towbar my dad made for it 30 some years ago, and the same '73 Chevy truck he used to tow it in.

Del Rawlins

Here is a picture of my dad with HIS pride and joy, shortly after he bought it. Picture taken in Granite Falls, Washington.

Del Rawlins

Gordon, Sure! I would in an instant but it would be a hard sell for my wife. The adoption would be a good excuse for another MGA. Not sure you would be as patient as my daughter who waited 15 years for hers.

Del, Very cool! As a Dad I am hoping the joy of driving an A will soon be realized by my girl. It is extremely intimidating for her and until that first ding incredibly stressful. She is just now beginning to master the clutch. She gets better every day.

David Holmes

C M Harter

Chris,
NICE! What brand of wheels and tyres do you have fitted?
Cleve

Hi Cleve,
The wheels are from a 1987 saab, 15x5.5 The tires are Yokohama AVS DB S2, P205/65 R15. The diameter are the same as original. The only rubbing I've had is the one inside wheel weight rubbing on the anti sway bar when the wheel is turned all the way, like when parking.

Chris
C M Harter

Chris, Did you still retain the drum brakes? Were you able to fit the front valance without cutting off the bumper mounts?
James Johanski

Hi James,
I just converted to disc brakes this spring using Green adapter plates and mgb calipers. I used a front extention off a parts car and cut off the bumper mounts and modified it for the anti sway bar mounts.

k brown

Chris, I've been looking for a place to have a hood louvered, where did you have it done, cost, problems, etc. thanks Jim G.
james guilfoyle

Hi Jim,

I had the original bonnet that the PO had stretched from sandblasting,so I used that not wanting to waste a good one if it turned out I didn't like it. Putting the louvers in actually took the damage out! We had to temporarily take the cross supports off underneath for him to press the louvers in. I also only had them pressed in to a reduced height of about 1/4" instead of the full height. They look very nice from the drivers seat and subtle from out side. The photo shows what they look like. Here's his web site; http://www.frontiernet.net/~dlcanfield/ or you can type in Louvers by Canfield.

C M Harter

James
I had my bonnet fluted earlier this year and would reverse the decision if I could now.
The pressing causes the bonnet to flatten and the edges of the flutes look like ripples.
If your bonnet is a good fit and in pristine condition, I would think hard and long before fluting it......
My feeling, Dave

David Godwin

Before pic of bonnet.
